Assignment 12/1- The Fox in the Box. Laser Cutting
Josh and I thought of an idea of having a box with a figurine. I mostly took care of the figurine, and Josh made the box. The box was an iteration of what they have in Maker-case, but it was trickier because of the thinness of the see through box. I ended up putting some of my illustrations edited in illustrator and made into an engraving for the box. The foxes also have the tail engraved and the cutest little bow!!!
These are the illustrator files before laser cutting, they had to be made to the size of the materials we used for the Laser cutting. The fox was made with the curvature tool and some straight lines to make the bottoms and be able to stand still.

Once the files were ready to laser cut, we made the fox first. The material used for the fox was acrylic. It was really satisfying the moment they came out and they were all standing up!!

We made the box after, the first material was acrylic, and there was only a thin see through material in the ThingSpace, so we ended up doing two layers and attaching them as one singular piece.

Once this box was made, and because it was somewhat hard to see the engraving, we made a wooden box as well. We had to do some changes to the box because it was not staying put. But once those changes were made, we had 8 foxes, and two boxes!

This is a great project. I love how you both used multiple materials to create the final project. The fox is cute and fun to look at. Great use of illustrator and drawing your own objects and designs. This kind of reminds me of a pop up box, where the object would come at you. It is interesting to see the outcome in two different ways. This would be a great project for high school students. They would have to come up with a design that could translate into different materials and reflects opposing ideas or moods. This could really aid students in how materials can be used for multiple meanings.
