Assignment 5/1- Scannography series.
SCANOGRAPHY
Series 1. Bending Precious Moments
This series is all about memories. Those quiet memories that I have from my past, and others that are more predominant in my bent memory. Each of the object is precious in one sense or the other, and wanted to create a series that mixed those objects. It is so interesting how we put value to objects, sometimes even more that we give value for individuals. The objects array memories, and also reminders about life, and I wanted to bend and transform that stillness into a more amorphous effect, because when we think of memories, those are not solid, but a more ghostly and maleable relationship to our physical self. It was so interesting to play with moving the images and see how some objects when moved created a rainbow š I do not know how that happen, but it was indeed strange, yet gratifying.
We bend memories all the time, it is never seen exactly as depicted in the moment they happened, hence the name of the book.
Series 2- Cousin IT dress ensambles.
In this series I wanted to convey the idea of a day in the life of the wordarobe of Cousin It. For those who doesn’t know who cousin It is, he-or she is a fictional character from the series and movies The Addams Family. Cousin it is all hair, and he wears a hat and some really nice sunglasses. He talks like the parents of Charlie Brown, not really making sense, but everyone in the family understands what se-she says. I always enjoyed that character and because of the male ability of using a scanner, and how the hair can be seen in the scanner. I had the idea of what accessories would cousin It use in a day, and sort of exaggerate the different styles.
This second series became a very fun and playful project by thinking what to give to cousin It, because she-he only uses accessories as attire. I do wish my hair could been seen more in the images but it was a bitt tricky with the use of the scanner and I had to be careful with taking good care of the scanner in the library at school.
Hopefully we will see cousin It using one of this stylish ideas in the next episodes of the Addams Family.
I love both of these scannography projects. The first one is so beautiful and ethereal. I love the way the tracing paper adds a dreamy quality to the images. I feel like scannography is such an interesting medium for exploring the idea of memories because of the ease with which you can include important momentos and photographs in one image.
